After updating to iOS 16.5 I feel battery has been draining faster. Nothing else has changed, I haven’t downloaded any new apps, I use the phone like I always do. I checked the battery usage from settings, nothing out of the ordinary there. Theres no out of the ordinary background activity or anything like that. I’m on iPhone XR.

Anyone else have experienced worse battery life after updating to 16.5?

People have complained about iOS 16 in general, but from what I’ve read, iOS 16 really worsened battery life on the iPhone Xʀ, even when only comparing it with iOS 15. I’m afraid there’s not much you can do.

I’m running iOS 12 on my iPhone Xʀ, so I can’t tell you about my experience with it.

Can you share a screenshot of the last 24 hours screen in Settings-Battery?

Please see attached screenshot of 24 hours battery usage. So I went to sleep around 22:30 and didn't use my phone until morning. It had 19% battery before I went to sleep and when I woke up around 7:00 it had 1% left. I don't think that's normal for an iPhone? Or has my battery gone so bad? I've bought the phone 2019 and it's still on the original battery.

Yeah that looks very poor even discounting the standby drop. Honestly, standby hasn’t been amazing on iPhones since iOS 12 (my Xʀ is on iOS 12 and standby isn’t amazing), but screen-on time looks quite poor.

That said, I don’t know what you used it for. Are you a heavy user? Most used apps? Brightness? Wi-Fi or LTE? Settings like push mail and background app refresh?

Can it be related to this?

"In a tweet in April 2022, Apple had also confirmed that it is normal for your iPhone's battery to drain after a new update but the good news is things should be back to normal in just 48 hours. Replying to a query about battery drainage on iOS 15.4, Apple support wrote, “Thanks for reaching out! We'll be happy to help. It's normal for your apps and features to need to adjust up to 48 hours after an update.""

Now it seems that my battery is back to normal. Last night stand by time was normal dropped like 2-3% over night. Also overall performance seem to be back to usual. Could it indeed be 16.5 that caused it.

Yeah, standby looks good on the second night, but screen-on time seems very, very low. On the 05:00-09:00 time-frame it seems like you used it for 45 minutes or so and it dropped from around 73% to around 50%. 45 minutes of SOT and it dropped 23%?
