About a year and a half ago, my Macbook Pro's battery started to bulge and battery life became less than an hour. At this point the battery still fit in the computer but it just didn't sit completely flat. The Apple store refused to replace the battery and wanted over $100 for a new one despite it being 5 years old, and in my opinion a safety hazard. I ended up buying a new macbook pro. I saved the old laptop and battery (and for some reason kept the battery unattached from the computer). Today, I happened to find the battery and was surprised to see how much worse it had gotten even though it hasn't been used. I cant even bend it closed if I tried.

LiPo batteries tend to puff up, specially if you don't take care of them! they must be stored at a specific temperature and fully charged. And once they puff up, you must stop using them and safely dispose of them.

I hope there is no toxic fumes or exposed toxic material there :S
