iPad Air Battery gauge "jumping". Is there much life left?

I have an iPad Air (1, as in 1st gen, released in 2013), running ios8, that I got in used condition. I could swear that after "blinking", the battery went from 64% to 48% in the span of a few minutes! I guess this is typical once the battery gets worn down? How much use would you say is left on the device?

The battery is nearly dead. Maybe you should get it replaced if you don't want to get a newer iPad.
