around 4:45 hours with wifi, full brightness, just browsing news sites, safari, excel file open. good or bad? 17" 2012 mbp.

With full brightness, that is good, as the 1920 x 1200 pixel use a lot of power, especially with full brightness.

How did you get a 2012?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Can we be friends????????? Also, that sounds reasonable.

haha i meant built in 2012, guess its "late 2011"

and meant to say 3 hours 45 min, not 4:45. hope thats still reasonable?

When I'm in class I do exactly as you do, except I have a privacy screen and crank my brightness to 1 or 2 notches and get about 7-8 hours. I also have a intel 520 120gb SSD.

i heard ssds only make up for maybe a 30min increase in battery life.

really double the the i'm getting just from brightness? kinda makes sense, just that's a big difference.

Really - SSD's only increase battery life by 30mins?

the result i've seen after searching these forums after a few minutes. some saw 30-45 minutes increase, but others said the difference was negligible.

It probably depends on what you do. I have a hard drive in my optibay, but it's not always at use. Plus the 520 series intel does consume quiet a chunk of power when its performing at full load.

I also use GFX card status to keep it to integrated. Brightness is the biggest factor in the battery life when just browsing.
