Battery Icon

Last night i was on the phone for about an hour and the battery icon displayed that my iphone was full! After about an hour and a half i looked at my phone again and it was still full, but 5 minutes later it shut off and i was very shocked. Has this happened to anyone? Why would the battery icon not move while you were on the phone?

This has happened to me a couple of times. I know now that after an hour of use if the icon hasn't moved at all, to restart the phone and it will show the "proper" usage via the icon.
