Okay, I've trawled the Internet for any answers (haven't found any) to what appears to be a "hidden" feature on the Macbook Pro's, so maybe anyone here might be more insightful.

I have a 2009 13" Macbook Pro, and whenever it's sleeping on battery, I can hold down the battery indicator for a few seconds it sends the MBP into a "hibernation mode".

When on A/C power it doesn't work, nor when the MBP is awake on battery.

I first knew when pressing the button once wouldn't show all the lights accurately, missing a few. So I would hold it down, unknowingly sending it into a deep sleep. Anyone know if this is a feature or something that shouldn't be there.

It's the 2.53Ghz 4GB RAM Core 2 Duo model, if anyone want's to replicate this.

So I guess this is a great battery saving feature (saved my life many a time) Apple hasn't told us about :D

I'm unable to replicate that on my 2011 macbook pro 15".

So on battery and lid closed? When you press your battery indicator, would it light up accurately or miss a light or two? I'm thinking mine could be defective then, though if anyone has my model MBP I'd love to hear from them.
