I ordered a base 15" the week the 2011 mbp's came out, on this unit the battery indicator button was flush and I couldn't feel anything but smooth aluminum running my hands over the holes machined for the leds.
I ended up returning the base to get the 2.2Ghz, and on the machine I got the button doesn't sit flush (it's "normal" position is recessed into the unit a few millimeters, enough that it's noticeable running your hand over it, and it seems to be more awkward/harder to push), and I can feel the holes for the leds.
I'm wondering if having the non-flush button is fairly commonly seen, or if this is a machining error, I don't think I've ever seen one like this in the apple store. Can anyone provide guidance about how their battery indicator is machined?
For reference, here's a (fairly low quality) picture that shows what I'm talking about: http://i.imgur.com/C9csB.jpg
