somewhere
my laptop is about 6 months old according to coconut battery.
I havent used it much over the last 6 months .. just every now and then but since school started ive been on it alot. When I first got my laptop I calibrated my battery and I was getting around 7.5 hours of just surfing the web, chatting and being on youtube. Lately when it is fully charged i see only around 4 hours but if i watch a youtube video or something the time drops fast .. like it 20 min drops. I calibrated it the other day and no change ??
coconut battery is showing 12610 mAH out of 13000 .. and its been like that ever since i got it ? Also I have never used the high performance video and my bluetooth is disabled

That's totally normal. For example, YouTube videos take up a lot of battery like you mentioned. How many charge cycles do you have? You should be around 80% once you reach 1000 charge cycles.

The time changes depending on what you are doing. My MBP is barely a week old. When I turn it on and just surf the web, it says like 7 hours remaining. The second I open a youtube video, it drops to 3-4 hours. Then I turn off youtube and it goes back to 6-7 hours.

The time remaining is according to what you are doing now and it calculates how long the battery will last if you keep on doing what you are doing. It confused me at first.

yea i know .. lately if im just on macrumors .. at 95% full .. i have 4hrs remaining .. weird

Well, there are many factors involved, such as the brightness of the screen and what apps you are running. Also, what is the battery's health (%)? #load cycles? All of these and many more issues will contribute to your total battery time.

My 13 MBP is 4 months old.

battery capacity fluctuates between 5449-5630,according to coconut battery.

I have only calibrated it once to apple's specifications. I have lectures 3 days a week, 6 hours a day and on two of those days I don't have access to a power socket and at the end of those 2 days I have about 5-10% left.

If you search the forum you'll find that mbp which have the highest capacities/ best health are those which go through regular charge cycles, even without regular calibration.....so that's what I'm doing. Don't leave it plugged in 90% of the time.

The most amazing case I have seen is an ibook battery going thru 1000 cycles with 80+% capacity on a taiwanese forum.

The computer calculates how much your battery will last if you keep doing what your doing. And videos take up tons of battery, web surfing takes up hardly any =)

It's all chinese....but you get the idea.

oh yeah, i made a mistake - it's a Macbook, not a ibook

....batteries degrade over time...

Use it, keep an eye on it, but don't obsess over it or it will drive you crazy...

If it gets to the point where applecare considers it to be defective, get it replaced.

Happy laptoping...:D

...APM, what'cha talking about:D
