The battery for my early 2003 12" PowerBook G4 lasts for about 1.5 hours of YouTube playback and has no bulging and doesn't get very hot, but using coconutBattery I see that the current max capacity is being reported much higher than the original capacity. System profiler also reports the battery as having a huge capacity. Should I be concerned? What can I do to fix this? It causes issues with reporting how much power is left. It takes an hour to go from 100% to 94% charged, then goes to 5% charged instantly. It lasts for another hour after that. The same thing happens when charging. The battery has 75 cycles and is supposedly 4 years old, but it is from Apple. This is not the original battery, the original battery lasts about 10 minutes these days.

Ok, 90% sure that's a fake Apple battery. This means that it would be displaying the strange behavior you're describing.
What makes you so certain - the behavior, or the picture? If the latter, what about it? Just curious.
Well, both. The behavior is pretty telling - I had a fake MacBook battery that would do the same thing.
Looking back at the picture though, it looks genuine actually. I wonder if it was poorly rebuilt or something.
@WindowsXPuser Maybe try resetting the PMU in your PowerBook?
I reset the PMU but the battery is still being reported as 65225mAh. The original battery is also reported as being 4 years old.
That's a bit odd, if both batteries are giving odd behavior then it is probably something on the computer. I don't know what that would be though.
Looks like I misread some stuff. I thought it said that the age was 210 weeks, but it actually says the age is 210 months. That means that the original battery is being reported correctly, and the other battery is the only one being reported incorrectly.
Ah, ok. In that case I'd say either the battery is an insanely convincing bootleg or it was rebuilt incorrectly at some point/something with the controller in it is messed up.
I've had a few OEM batteries do that. They failed shortly afterwards or were already dead.
