My MacBook battery will charge but as soon as I unplug the laptop from the wall, the laptop turns off. The laptop won't take juice from the battery.

I tried this with my friends battery and his works in mine fine, I'm tempted to buy another battery because the Apple (3rd party) technician said batteries only have a 6 month warranty, is this true even though I have a HE agreement, heck even a standard 1 year warranty would contradict this discrepancy, has anybody else encountered this or knew this? I checked Apple's website but I haven't found anything to confirm this.

The original one is 7 months old and falls outside this supposed warranty period. If it is true I can get another battery on HE but I don't want to spend the money.
