Hi all!

So after my iPhone 4S began to drain from 100% to 0% in under 10 hours without even being touched I decided to go in to Apple and get it changed. Using it would see it fully drain in under 3 hours (and that's just for texting occasionally and viewing calendars etc).

Now Apple advised me that they will replace the phone (which they did for another fault) but regarding battery life they said that my backup is probably corrupt and that I would need to set it up as a new phone. I wasn't in a position to do that as I am travelling and really need all my texts etc. Today after 2 hours of very light use the phone is on 83% which to me indicates that there may be something sinister happening in my backup? Even while writing this it went down 5%.

My brightness is low, SIRI is off, there's no apps in the background and I have deleted most apps too.

Has anyone encountered the above bug that apple speaks of?

Thanks!

Can you set up an iCloud backup so you'll have a recent backup to restore from?

Problem should lie with the backup as you suspected, although I can't confirm the root cause of the problem base on your description alone. Check if anything funny happening with your location services first. Turn off the system services getting location info, such as traffic, iAds etc. if that doesn't help, then it should be your backup. As much as losing your texts would hurt, it's better than losing so much battery in a short time. Do a clean restore & set up as a new phone.

Thanks.

Maflynn, I restored from an iCloud backup for the firs time yesterday actually.

Down to 30% now.

Bleepance, I took your advice and turned off said services an still the same issue. Will transfer the SMS.db file and do a fresh install I guess!

Ok,

Firstly thanks for your help before earlier people!

Unfortunately again as I am on the road I was only able to do an Erase all Contents and Settings, and not a full restore via iTunes (I am unsure if Erase all Contents and Settings is enough to clear all the bugs etc? Hopefully someone can advise.

Also just incase it helps anyone, using iBackupBot I was able to backup and restore my sms.db file. I was able to restore all my texts but images couldn't be restored ( I could back them up however!)

Phone had drained to 0% in around 6 hours today with the only use being a few SMS so hopefully after it fully charges now I will be able to better assess if the Erase all Contents and Settings has done the job!
