Dear all,

I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop. The 2018 entry model 13” MBP with Touch Bar and 8/256GB memory is on my shortlist. While it really is a fantastic laptop, it’s also a fair bit of money, so I would like to ask for your help.

I’m very curious about battery life for this specific Quad Core model, released in summer. I’ve searched the forum and read plenty of reviews, but I’ve had a hard time forming some general consensus. Reviews have been inconsistent. Perhaps this had to do with the patches that were released when the device was new and/or indexing of new computers. I’ve heard everything from 6 hours, to 12 hours.

I understand that the battery life you’re getting is very much dependent on how you use your computer, still, I would be interested in just some sort of average based on data from actual users who have now hopefully had the computer long enough.

I’m looking for a number based on basic usage, such as web browsing, email, perhaps a bit of Netflix, Spotify et.c. Nothing fancy. Battery life when when editing 4K video in FCP would probably not be indicative of my daily usage.

Please do not vote if you do not have the 2018 Quad Core model with Touch Bar.

Thanks in advance!

I own the same model as you're considering (just with the upgraded i7 2.7GHz and 16GB RAM) and use it every day during the week heavily (not so much on weekends, but still use it a little), and I have up until recently been using Chrome.

Chrome is a battery hog, and I was getting only around 5-6 hours with 7 tabs, 3-4 MS Word Docs open, Skype for Business, Spotify, MS Outlook.

I have recently changed to Safari and am getting 8+ hours, and I honestly prefer Safari on the Mac compared to Chrome! I was only using Chrome because of synchronisation with some Windows PC's in the office.

I agree it is an expensive machine, but it is outstanding. I would highly recommend you use Safari as your browser though.
