I mainly use my phone for the music player as well as some wifi browsing while I'm at home. Features such as Siri are turned off as well as location services. Brightness is set to 50% and I password lock the phone when not in use.

I would say I think your doing pretty good.

Those times seem rather poor for a 4S. Mine's on 18.5 hours of standby and 4 hours of usage and at 78%.

Lol, this isn't possible. Either your battery isn't collaborated right, or you plugged it in.

OP, yes that sounds about right.

It is possible for my 4S. That's my average battery life. Fun facts: I'm still on 5.0.0 and I've restored it from a backup that has been handed down across my iOS devices since iOS 1.1.1.

I just ran mine all the way until the phone shut off yesterday. 1 day 8 hours 23 minutes of standby and a little over 6 hours of usage.

Do you have everything turned off? Push notifications, brightness, location services, etc?

Well, that's interesting. Have you compared with setting it up as 'new'.

I have the following:
WiFi - Almost always on
Ask to connect to WiFi - On
Push Notifications - On
Weather Widget - On
Stocks Widget - Off
Location Services - On
Cell Network Search - On
Compass Calibration - On
Diagnostics and Usage - On
Location Based iAds - Off
Setting Time Zone - On
Traffic - Off
Brightness - 0-25% (I change it often)
Auto-Brightness - Off
Siri - On
Raise to Speak - Off
Bluetooth - Off
WiFi Sync - Off
Ping - Off
Mail - 7 Accounts set to fetch once an hour, all push turned off
Calendars/Contacts - Fetches from three accounts once an hour
iCloud Backup - Off
FaceTime/iMessages - On
Automatic Downloads - On

Plus a few other carryovers that can't be set via the Settings app, but instead came over with my backup.

Well, that's interesting. Have you compared with setting it up as 'new'.

Nope, I've never setup any of my iDevices as "New".

Games, music, camera, email, web surfing, and texting. I haven't made a phone call on it yet.

The music is the key. I could listen to music for 2 hours and be at 95%. Its an artificial usage driver.

I actually believe Intell because i get those same battery stats. When i charge my phone every night it's usually at 50% and higher and i use it a lot.

why people using iphone like to adjust brightness 50 %
is that really dark ?
when i use iphone i turn to 70 % or 80 % look more better ?
50 % wow ,

Stand by usage I get incredible battery life (sorry haven't really paid attention to quantify it, just leaps and bounds ahead of my DROID devices).

Just like on my DROID devices, I turn nothing off. Save for switching a few apps off from notifications and turning off bluetooth (dont use it), every service is on my phone.

I usually can go from 6AM to Midnight easily without charging my phone (about 8 hours (work) of that time is stand by). The rest of the time it's navigating, light browsing, some calls, some texts, lots of heytell, pics, facebook, etc.

This is with push notifications turned on (except for email which is set to fetch). My usage consisted of calls, text messages, email, browsing, streaming radio on 3G for a little over an hour etc.

I can't get above 5 hours 30 minutes of "usage" before I hit 0%. On my 3rd iPhone.

Granted, I have push everything on and location services on. But I did on my iPhone 4 as well and had no issues.

"iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge" That renders those number inaccurate.

I don't see why you guys are complaining about 7-9 hours of solid usage times. That is very good.

My android phone barely makes past 4 hours usage despite ROMs and kernels being flashed and tested. It is what makes me want to buy an iPhone again.

i always get between

6 hours to 6 hours 40 minutes usage
1 day to 1 day 12 hours standby

so i'm very happy with my battery life....not much difference to the 4. I got to over 7 hours usage on my 4 a fair few times but it isn't far off...it lasts me a long time so getting 7-8 hours usage isn't a huge issue.

 you must be a SuperAMOLED user in the making.

The iPhone 4 battery is capable of more than the 4S because of Siri's 'raise-to-speak' feature! it's a bit of a battery hog - turn it off and I bet you'll see comparable times to the 4.
