Hi, I currently have the iPhone 17 Pro Max on iOS 26.0 (23A345) and been noticing that if I restart the phone I seem to lose 3% battery. Then some time after like 15 minutes or so I would restart the phone again and it will lose another 3% battery. But if I don’t wait some time before restarting again then sometimes it will lose 1% battery or nothing at all.

Anyone with the 17 Pro Max could you please test this and see if you are also experiencing the same thing? Kind of worried now as I just bought this phone and I hope nothing is wrong with the phone itself and it’s an iOS problem?

EDIT:
I also have noticed when my phone is around 50-60-70% battery using my phone on Safari via wifi connection and just browsing and scrolling through forums and Reddit pages I lose about 1% battery every 5-6 minutes.

Wondering if anyone else is also losing 1% battery every 5-6 minutes while browsing and scrolling on Safari when their battery is around 50-60-70%? Battery drain is way too quick.

Trying to confirm if there is something wrong with my iPhone or if it’s simply an iOS bug?

I have that happen to me, never noticed it before. I wouldn't worry about it too much though.

Most likely this is just due to the fact that the phone is so new. Your phone hasn’t been used enough to properly have a calibrated battery. It might even stay at 100% for a long time off the charger, but that is not accurate. When you reboot, the battery status catches up to its real world status. It didn’t lose anything, it is just reassessing how much battery life remains and updating the software to reflect that.

But as others have said… stop rebooting the phone. Should only need a reboot for software updates.

You need to give us a bit more detail than that my dude. As in all the years I’ve had an iPhone I can recall probably 2 times I had to force a restart.
I’ve rarely had to do a forced restart, but many, many instances of apps not responding or not functioning properly, including Apple’s native apps. Occasionally, a frozen screen, Safari misadventures, any number of such issues. I’ve never seen any electronic device, especially a network-connected device, that didn’t have to be occasionally restarted. I have a weekly reminder to restart all my devices, including my router, as it sometimes acts up. And as discussed on this forum any number of times, a restart sometime after a new iOS installation clears a lot of issues. I’ve never seen any reason for doing such a thing, but there was a fairly recent thread where someone was saying he restarted his phone every day. That’s way too extreme, but I imagine most people restart at least occasionally.

Misbehaving apps I get. But I tend to bring up the task switcher an swipe it away. All problems solved. Easier to close than reboot.

I will reboot if the phone is running unusually warm during a beta cycle, but other than that I only reboot when I get the .1, .2, .3, etc.

Why you restarting the phone so much lol
Because I’m testing if my phone battery is faulty or not since I just bought it over a week ago.

It’s been over a week since I had this phone. How long does it take for it to be normal then?

I have also noticed when my phone battery is at 50-60-70% battery and I am on Safari via wifi connection browsing and scrolling forum and Reddit pages I will lose 1% battery every 5-6 minutes. Clearly not normal. Wondering if others are experiencing the same on 17PM?

You also have the 17PM? Check my edited post do you also experience this aswell?
It seems as if most of your complaint is centered around Safari and battery usage. I have found, in the past, right here on Macrumors as well, that browsing certain sites causes additional battery usage. I haven’t had the issue on Macrumors in quite a while, but there well may be others that cause this too. If there’s some rogue process causing a battery drain, doing a forced restart will shut everything down, more so than just a normal shutdown and restart. Restarting by itself will cause additional battery usage as all network connections have to be resestablished, any necessary syncing has to occur, just various processes that need to be completed after restarting the device will use up more battery until everything settles back down. That, in itself, is the cause of some of your battery loss. Restarting several times in a row will definitely use up your battery. If you’re concerned about one specific thing that you can’t track down, do a forced restart and then let it be. As for the phone itself, I have the 17PM, and even though 26 has a number of issues, battery life currently is outstanding. I’ve not put 26.1 on it as, on my iPad Pro, it’s horrible, much worse than 26.0 was, but I haven’t noticed a difference in battery life.

I have had my 17 Pro Max for over a week now and testing this battery drain to determine if my iPhone is faulty or if it’s an iOS issue. If 17PM owners can help do this test and post your results it would be appreciated as I don’t have much time left if I need to return the phone.

17 Pro Max settings for the test:

- iOS 26
- Battery can be at this range 50-70%
- Background App Refresh: ON
- 30% screen brightness
- Rest is default settings
- Connected to WiFi

Test:

- Open up Safari browser
- Goto any websites like Reddit or forums
- You will start browsing, scrolling and opening pages without stopping activity until you lose 1% battery
- Take note on how long it took you to lose 1% battery

Results:

My results is I lose 1% battery for every 5-6 minutes. What are your results? Do you experience the same battery drain as me?

By that calculation if you went from 100% --> 0% you would be getting 8.3 - 10 hours of active use, not just watching videos. That's actually pretty damn good.
