battery meter/ random shutdowns on 3.1.2

So my iPhone 3G's battery meter is bipolar, after 15 min of web surfing it goes to 20% and then it will go back up, then down so i never have a accurate battery reading and quite often when I'm in safari it will quit out to the home screen then shutdown. I'm at the end of my rope here, I've restored in DFU mode as a new phone and the problems persist, i wish i could go back to 3.0.1. MY phone has been noting but a disappointment since 3.0. I really think I will be taking a good look at the Motorola Droid, I like the iPhone but if its this unreliable i will not put up with it.

Simply try restoring it. Hook your iPhone up to iTunes and when it detects it you just press the button that says restore.
