Battery okay to use? and charger question

Hello~
I bought a mac used. It's a 15" MBP but not the unibody. I think its from 2008 or 2007.

I didn't notice when I bought it but the battery is dented. Is it still safe to use? It is still holding a charge.

Also I've never seen a charger "head"(?) like this one. Does anyone know where it's from or if it's some kind of mod? (Yes, I could have asked the seller but I forgot to and he won't respond now.)

Sorry, I don't know what a jury-rigged charger is. I should not be using it?

Would you recommend buying a new charger and battery?

I feel like I got jipped. Haha, o well, too late now >.<
