My current 15" Quad Core Intel Core i7 500GB 2.0GHz MacBook Pro has an 85% charge and the time indicated it 3:33 remaining. Currently, MacRumors is all that's open, as well as a download through Transmission. Is this normal, or is my battery messed up?

The time indicated is a constantly changing estimate, based on your current screen brightness, WiFi, Bluetooth, apps/widgets/processes running, etc.

Launch Activity Monitor and change "My Processes" at the top to "All Processes". Then look to see what may be consuming system resources.

This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

It's fine, but if you want to be even more OCD sure, download iStat Menus 3 [I love having some basic stats in my menu bar, well worth the $20 or whatever it is], or if you just want to check your battery Coconut Battery [I think it's free], and check your current capacity. (Actually, that's probably a terrible idea as it won't be 100%: WHICH IS COMPLETELY NORMAL)

Why do you think your battery may be "messed up?"
