Just got a 3g iphone and had a question about the battery. I work in an area that gets no cell service, and wondered if I should leave the phone on at work will it drain really quickly because it's looking for signal. Or should I just turn it off or into airplane mode? Thanks

If you get no service then you might as well turn it into airplane mode to improve the battery life. Then when you get back to an area that has coverage you can turn it off again. Same with bluetooth and wifi, they all save battery if they are turned off.
