I try and keep my laptop plugged as much as I can to keep my battery in good condition for when I have to take my laptop out of my home and away from any power sockets.

I've recently downloaded Lion and have noticed that the lock screen always says it's 97-99% charged even though the desktop says it's 100% charged.

Is my laptop secretly leaking out power and therefore constantly being charged or is this just a visual bug?

I have MBP 13" 2011

You shouldn't leave your MBP plugged in all the time, as the battery needs to be used to stay healthy. If you're not leaving home, you should still run it on battery a few hours every few days. Read the AC POWER section of the following link for details.

It's normal that your battery may stop charging between 93-99%. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
