Hi all,

I have a MBP 5, 5 (mid-2009) and its time to replace the battery. Is it really worth it to get it done at a Mac Store or should I just do it myself? Do I need to buy the exact battery or can I use the newer batteries that supposedly go for 1000 cycles?

How much is it to get it done at the Apple Store?

The repair seems simple enough if you are familiar with opening up MBPs and have the right tools.

This guide will be a tremendous help: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-Battery/1712/1

You can buy the battery and all the tools you need (if you don't have them already) at ifixit.

If you have the skills to do the swap, then go for it. No need to spend extra money on something that really isn't that difficult. But if you are unsure, then I would get Apple to do it. No need to risk completely messing something up.
