The battery on my 2015 Retina MacBook is pretty shot - the battery only lasts about 2 hours.

I have replaced it with a 14" MBP, but cannot sell it with the battery like this - is battery replacement a viable option? I realise that the inside is 90% battery.

Here's the procedure for changing the battery.

If you wish to attempt this, take your time and work methodically making a careful note of which screws fit where.
Imho Apple should be ashamed of glueing these batteries in. They obviously did so to deter owners from changing out the battery themselves and increase revenue for their approved service repair centres.

I’ve done battery replacement on two iPhones through Apple, and both times have found the cost very reasonable and the experience seamless. Presumably with a rMB 12 they may have to first order the battery (I.e., not something they’d keep in stock at the Apple Store), but basically it’s a “drop off in the morning, come back in the afternoon to pick up” experience.

With my iPhones, I have to say I really felt naked not having my phone for 6 hours tho!

I wouldn't do this yourself. The aftermarket batteries can be crap and apple can make this run like new. Youll only make a mess. If you intend on keeping it, id get apple to do it but I dont honk youll keep it after getting the 14" and if a new 12" comes out. the intel 12" is a good occasional laptop for travel. Something to just type on since that doesnt require much power.

I quit doing my own battery replacements after spending close to the same cost on battery, never quite getting it all glued and sealed properly and having the battery fail prematurely or the battery not showing proper life. I'll jsut spend the extra 50%-30% cost and have peace of mind. iPhone DIY batteries definitely not worth it. Just pay apple the $80.

I agree with this 100%. All things considered, battery replacement by Apple is one of the things I find very reasonably priced.

That first video is brutal I expected him to pierce the battery causing an fire. Honestly, you can just use a small straw to drop nail polish remover (acetone) under the battery, wait a minute or two, and then slide plastic cards, old credit cards work, under the batteries to break the now soft adhesive. If you use the same plastic card just put index cards underneath each battery part so they don't stick back down.
