My Macbook pro's battery seems to be stuck on 100% for a day now, and charging icon is permanently on even when not connected to charger. When the battery is out the macbook simply shuts down without any notice. Did anyone come across such a thing? Is there a way to fix this or does it mean that my battery is down? Thanks

What year and model MBP do you have? Try resetting the SMC. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
Do a SMC and PRAM reset. Google for how.
PRAM/NVRAM has nothing to do with battery/power/charging issues. Resetting it will not help.
