Battery usage = home & lock screen

What exactly means home and lock screen in battery usage that is high sometimes?
Means that my phone is unlocked and i am looking to home screen icons? Only that or is something more that i am missing?

That counts battery usage when getting notifications on the lock screen, email push/fetch, and when you are using the home screen or have the lock screen lit up. At least that is how I have understood it.
