Battery watch band for apple watch: what ever happened to this product launch idea?

There was once a 3rd party product launch idea that kinda petered away into non-existence. What ever happened to this watch band product launch?

Everybody complains about the battery life of the apple watch. This idea of a battery inside the links of a watch band was an awesome idea. Oh well, .....

Apple filed a patent I believe. But nothing has ever been stated for production or a future release. Likely just experimenting with it.
