Never thought we'd see the day. How long is it people have been asking for this?!

Does much UHD stuff make it onto iPlayer these days? I checked the FA Cup final (on my LG iPlayer app), which always used to be UHD, but it seemed limited to HD this year.

So all this time the BBC just lied, saying it wasn't possible on tvOS, even though other video apps have been doing this for a long time. Still, I'm glad it finally did it!

Noticed the iPlayer app for tvOS had an update recently, which was surprising – the BBC don't seem to update it frequently. Was doubly-surprised when I saw it casually added support for subtitles!

There's some interesting background detail in this reddit thread – courtesy of a Freedom of Information request – which indicates why it's taken so long to add this feature:

I'd posted this also on another thread here, but the reason for the subs being added wasn't the BBC being proactive.

Think it was also on reddit that there was a link to a discussion on GitHub or Discord where someone was able to add subs to the iPlayer app as a proof of concept with minimal effort & that's what led to the app being updated, not because of any change that Apple/BBC did.
