BBS and Telnet

Hey guys,
I was watchin the movie hackers(see other thread aswell ) and I remembered the good old days of BBS. I looked it up on wikipedia and they mention something called telnet which is kind of a BBS but for the internet(no dialup needed). Ok seems cool, so I download it. I dont have any addresses though, can you guys post some telnet addresses of anything, games, databases, whatever. I just wanna get my feet wet and explore. MUST BE LEGAL .

I found some addresses, but I cant seem to connect.
Anyone know what the problem is? By the way this might not belong in community discussion so feel free to move it.

The 1 image is what I get one I enter a valid telnet address. A none valid one looks like(see 2 picture)
