I had this happen today for the first time which kinda freaked me out. I was web browsing on my iPad and entered a site which had a ton of ads. Usually Wipr deals with them but for whatever reason not this time. A new tab opened on Safari and it was clearly a dodgy advertisement for something that was 49.99 a month, but before I could even close it, the Apple Pay payment prompt came up from the bottom of the screen by itself with my default card listed for a fee of £0.99. It was at the “Processing” point and I tapped out of it as quickly as I could, so it didn’t even get to to the stage where it asked me to confirm the payment with Touch ID. To be double sure, I checked my Apple Wallet soon after and there were no new transactions against this card, nor were there any pre authorised payments. I also checked my banking app and nothing listed there either (though it’s never usually immediately available). So I *think* I’m ok, although feel free to let me know if there is anything else I should check.

But I just found this really alarming and wanted to let others know to be super careful. I didn’t even know a webpage could automatically call up the payment prompt like that without the user specifically clicking on a “Pay with Apple Pay” button. All it would take is two taps on the side button, especially if it’s second nature to so many.

Also noticed it being recently reported on the Apple support forum. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255990192?sortBy=rank
