While editing some Word documents this afternoon, utilizing QuickView and listening to iTunes, Time Machine kicked in and suddenly I got some pretty heavy beach ball action. Music even froze for about a full minute. When the system finally became more stable I checked the Console and lo and behold...
5/24/12 2:27:04.000 PM kernel: disk1: I/O error.
So I opened up Disk Utility. So here's the thing... I don't have a disk1 listed. I have disk0 (primary disk in 4 partitions, 2 of which are invisible) and my USB HDD disk2.
So I did a diskutil list from Terminal. Disk1 shows up there, same size as my primary partition on disk0. Then I remembered that Lion's filefault2 does something screwy with partitions.
Any ideas what might have happened? Could it have been a temporary hiccup with file vault (disk1) or do you think it's a symptom of a lower level (disk0) issue--nothing to do with FV?
