Beachball of Death When Opening Disk Utility

I'm having this weird problem with disk utility on my mac pro running 10.8.2. For the first 15-20min after each startup, disk utility works perfectly fine. Then for no apparent reason it just stops working. Every time I open it up after this seemingly random amount of time, I get the spinning beachball and have to force quit. I installed a Samsung 830 SSD in it and enabled TRIM. I'm not sure if this might have something to do with it. My secondary drive is a 1TB Western Digital Blue. I've tried all sorts of combinations and can't seem to recreate the problem. If anybody has any suggestions I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks
