BeachBall on Network Shares

So I have network shares with other PCs in my vicinity, that works fine until I move out of range of the WIFI LAN and the share are no longer there, except dang Finder keeps looking for them, and look and look, what I reckon tries for 60 seconds before it gives up and meanwhile am BeachBalled and Finder refuses to do anything else. I'd like that timeout to be like 5 seconds. After 5 seconds I'd like it to just automatically disconnect the shares.

Gurus?
