i've had this late 2008 15" macbook pro 2.8ghz for a few weeks. i don't recall any beachball issues until i installed 8gb of crucial ram in it. this mac does have the update to allow 8gb ram.

i ran techtool deluxe and the memory passed, as well as everything else. i also ran clean my mac and onyx. still, this happens fairly often. i've noticed it mostly on iphoto, quicktime, safari, firefox.

any idea of anything to try, other than putting the 4gb original sticks back in?

Put the 4 back in. If the problem goes away the ram is defective so have it replaced. If not then you coincidentally developed a new problem around the same time you installed the ram. It's process of elimination. First step is eliminate the RAM as the cause.

do you have a friend with the same ram? it might be defective, thats how mine was and i sent it back waiting for new ones to come in the mail now
