So I got this cool little app called Beamer for streaming movies to ATV....but then I realized that I can just play videos from VLC and airplay them......so which is better? Or is there any difference?

beamer. tried both and vlc+airplay is horrible over wifi. beamer works just fine.

cheers.

In my opinion Beamer is close to perfect when combined with this open source web solution which I point at the video library on my NAS. From my iPhone I can browse my video collection, pick one and BAM it's playing on my Apple TV. Beamer even allows you to pause/stop the video from your Apple TV remote. And it remembers where I left off when replaying the same video. This solution doesn't tie up my iPhone to Airplay the video; it sends it straight from my iMac. If only there were a way to keep Beamer hidden on my mac since it always pops up on my desktop whenever I play a video...
