The Beats Pill+ Bluetooth speaker has received a notable discount today at two retailers, with the White model specifically getting marked down to one of the lowest price points seen for the device. At both Target and Amazon you can get the Beats Pill+ in White for $116.99, which is over $30 lower than the speaker's more common sale price of $150. When it first launched in 2015, Apple sold the Beats Pill+ for $230.

The only other color that appears slightly lowered in price as well is Black, but on Target the color has sold out at the time of writing, and on Amazon every other color option is $149.00 and above (you'll have to add the speakers to your cart to see how much they are). Elsewhere at retailers like Best Buy, B&H Photo, Walmart, and Newegg the speaker sits at around a similar $149.00 price point, while Apple still sells it for $179.95.

In other Beats sales, Newegg's official eBay store has the Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones for $197.00, down from $299.00. Colors available include Gloss Black, Gloss White, Rose Gold, and Gold, and there is a limit to three headphones per customer.

The next best prices can be found at Walmart, Best Buy, and Amazon, which all have the headphones for about $219.99. Like the Beats Pill+ deal, discounts on the Beats Solo3 headphones at these retailers are mostly focused on one color of the device, this time in Black.

Much better price for this speaker. Bought one of the Pills at Best Buy a couple years ago for $229. Listened to it for about 15 minutes before deciding I'd be returning it. Bought a Bowers & Wilkins bluetooth speaker (T7 Wireless) for $350 and haven't looked back!

Does any of these respond to hey Siri commands? I know most of these you can touch a button to activate Siri on it. But I kind of think that defeats the purpose. I would like to use it in the living room, kitchen etc. And just be able to say hey Siri, and have it activate.

It'd be nice if they did, but I doubt they do in order to get people to buy HomePod whenever it finally comes out

Love my Pill + but I’m hoping for a refresh sometime this year. It’s a great device but could really use the W1 chip for pairing and range. Now that I have that in my AirPods I’m really missing it in the Pill. For me, the chip would actually be more useful in the speaker.

Nope, they don't since they aren't "always on" and you have to tap a button to turn it on and sync it through Bluetooth to an iPhone or Mac or whatever. However, they do have a speakerphone so you can talk through them when someone calls you.

I have an original Beats Pill that's still kicking, so what I do is tap it on when I enter my kitchen (also where I listen to the most music), and once I hear the BT connected I ask Siri to play my playlists through my iPhone. Only BT speakers I've owned have been a Beats Pill and JBL Pulse 2, and the Pill has been FAR better in terms of lasting quality. Although both will be ditched for HomePod pretty soon;)

That kind of sucks. I’m sure like the echo tap. That they could just push out some sort of update to allow the hey Siri functionality. But I agree that they wouldn’t push that out. In order to not hurt the home pod sales.

Ordered one off Amazon. Will give to my niece for her birthday in March. I think she'll be 12. She's very much into brands like Apple and Beats. I bought her Beats headphones for Xmas and she was more excited than I thought she'd be. Kinda thinking twice about giving her another Beats thing only 3 months later, but whatever.

I don't think a mere update would do it. I think "Hey Siri" needs a A8 or higher chip + WiFi to work.

Personally, I think a lower priced "hey Siri" speaker would enhance, not cannibalize HomePod sales. The only reason I'm not buying a HomePod is because, while I could find a room for it, I would want a lower priced mostly voice control speaker in other rooms where I don't need a $350 speaker to compliment it. I would spend an additional $100.

It's a shame because HomePod is a good device to promote both HomeKit as a lifestyle AND Apple Music but Apple seems to be opting to only use it to promote Apple Music even though HomePod is a HomeKit hub. But perhaps Apple want so launch the HomePod first to get the bugs out before they launch companion speakers.

Steal... can get 2 for basically what they initially cost... and they work in concert together when you do that.

That’s what I was looking at. A lower end model that will mainly be there for the voice assisstant like an echo tap. I’m not looking for a high end speaker.

$350 is too much for a device that will stay in one room and hasn't been promoted as a HomeKit hub or anything else besides an expensive Apple Music speaker. Soon we'll see the side by side comparisons with Google Home and Amazon Echo running rings around the Homepod, "sorry I didn't understand that" or "sorry I can't do that, ask on iPhone". I wish it were different, but there's nothing that leads me to believe HomePod will even try to compete with other smart speakers. The problem won't be the hardware, which is likely top-notch as usual, but Siri. People say its because Apple cares about privacy while Google and Amazon don't, to a certain extent sure, but 6+ years after Siri was introduced that's sounding like a lame excuse. Some basic commands should "just work" and they still don't. Siri never left beta even though Apple removed the designation.
