Beats Studio battery level wrong

Has anyone experienced this before? Catalina's volume control is constantly showing my Beats Studio battery as almost dead

However both iOS and iPadOS show what I am expecting

and the bluetooth settings on macOS agrees

Any idea how to fix this? I have tried unpairing and adding again but that made no difference
 
Didn't think to try it before since the battery level shows correctly in the bluetooth menu but a PRAM & SMC reset appears to have fixed it
