Groovy phone however I don't see them doing the old school transparent colored backs.

I could easy see the cheaper iPhone outselling the iPhone 5S by a 2 to 1 margin if not more if they use this design.

I'd prefer less transparency but cool idea nonetheless.

If they make a budget iPhone, offering more colors would be ideal, similar to the iPod line.

An updated iPhone 4/4s would be a great budget phone.
Price tag €399 an I am happy.

Second, by this Apple will still offer two different screen sizes, which I think is a must.
We don't need sizes like Galaxy S3 and S4, but two phones in 4 inches (iPhone 5 and its successor) and one in 3.5 inches would be sufficient.

I think this is a quirky, yet cool concept. Maybe a little more frosting of the internals though. I think Apple's way into the budget end of that market will be to market the 4s more, or even the 5 once the successor is out. But they might decide to change things up to keep the costs down.

It would probably be better for Apple to create a whole new product for the budget iPhone, that's designed to be budget right from the get-go. The problem with selling the older flagship models as budget models is that the manufacturing cost won't necessarily go down as the product ages.

Two sides to that coin though. Making a brand new phone requires more money in research and development. Costs to produce the older phones have already gone down by merit of more efficient tooling and production and cheaper parts. Not saying you are wrong, per se, but I am sure there is a magical number (I don't know said number) where it is more profitable one way or the other.

Can someone explain this cheaper iPhone concept? You can get aiphne for 99 cents.

Unless you are buying it outright, what's the point?

That looks quite nice, but theres no way Apple would do that now. They are always going on about how they want to hide all the electronics so the user is fully immersed in the experience of their device etc...

This is a good idea for one of those companies that makes customised back and fronts for the iPhone.

Such a girlie color. If you were a real manly man...oh, wait...

Never mind!!!:p

Haha. That was good.

This new cheap iPhone rumor just isn't going to happen. I wish it would go away. There is no way Apple is going to pay for new tooling for 3rd world countries. For the rest of the world they have the 4 & 4S. Soon they'll have the 5.

I'm very old...it takes me time to figure stuff like thar out!

And considering I only figured out the difference between boys and girls a few years ago...I thought I did pretty well!

 Okay. All is forgiven.

Most countries, you buy the phone outright then it's cheaper to use on a pay as you go plan. The iPhone doesn't cost 99c, you pay it all back + more during your contract.

I buy the foreign markets. In the US, it makes no sense. You contract price doesn't change, phone for full price vs 'discount rate', so why buy anything cheaper.

I'll pass... Maybe if I had one of these to match...

I feel they could work if they had all the features of the iPhone 5 but Apple cut the price by using some new kind of polycarbonate. I would prefer if you could not see the internals (perhaps a layer of complimenting coloured paint on the inside in the transparent case). I wonder how much cheaper it would be for Apple, given they have iPhone 5 component production lines running? Hypothetically of course...
