I was selling an item on ebay worth about £200, in the description I wrote that I may also be willing to trade for an iPhone or iPad. I received a reply today saying that they could pay either £200 cash, an iPad 1st gen 16GB 3G+wifi or an iPhone 4!

I already own an iPhone 4, so the obvious choice for me is the iPad. But then I thought that I would not use the 3G much on the iPad so I wondered if I should get the iPhone, sell it and then buy a 32GB wifi iPad 2. What would you choose if you were in my situation?

You're kidding, right? Take the cash! Cash is always better than a depreciating consumer toy. Buy Apple stock with that cash and you will make money instead of investing it in an electronic product that gives you no ROI.

Cash never arrives damaged, on its last legs, or broken. Unless you are 100% sure those devices are in great working order, I'd just take the cash and put it toward buying myself an iPad, if that's what you decide you want.

+1 take the money and run

A refurbished iPad with the same specs is £390 from the Apple Store and a brand new iPhone 4 is £510.

If an brand new iPhone sells for over twice the amount of cash, a used one probably sells for, what, at least £300? If you feel confident enough to be able to sell the iPhone 4 for £300, get that.

Like someone else said though, make sure you're sure that the product is in great shape. Ask for pictures and whatnot.

Tell him to post pics of the product; and if they're good then go for the iToy, as you could sell it for £400 or even higher, because, I know that I've not been able to get my hands on the iPad.
