I listed to apple music though my iPhone 13 Pro Max via by Air Pods


does that Apple Watch act as a "remote control" for the phone, do things like adjust volume, look for another song to play etc?


I dont want the Watch to become the new source of the music player since I would still want by Airpods paired to the phone for calls etc that might occur

Yup, by default anytime you’re playing media on your phone your watch will show media controls instead of the watchface when you raise your wrist.
