This device was always hot-pluggable and would quickly switch from Connected to Not Connected. Now, hot plugging the device doesn't work (it says in Not Connected). The only way to get it to work is to plug it in cold, or if the Mac is already on and you plug the device in, you must reboot.

Is there a driver fix for this?

Didn't do anything for me. This seems to be unique to Ventura. Was hot-swappable prior to switching to the beta. Oh well.

What Mac? You connect it directly? How is the adapter - when it is recognized - registered in System Information? Can you please post a screenshot? You deleted the Network Settings?

Anyway, this might alleviate the pain a little:

Connect the adapter. If it is not recognized, open the terminal and execute:

sudo killall -STOP -c usbd

and then

sudo killall -CONT -c usbd

… at least this might spare you rebooting the machine.

M1 Pro 14"

Under System Report, it does show up as long as it is plugged in:

Whenever I unplug it, it is removed. Network settings is a different story. It always shows as Not Connected and is not functional unless it was plugged in from a cold boot or restarted:

I tried executing the commands you offered in Terminal, but it had no effect on getting the device to function without a reboot. It does always work after a restart or cold boot:

if it appears in the USB tree your Mac works perfectly. The commands I provided basically force the “detect everything connected on USB”-step usually done e.g. when you restart.

Have you tried to assign it manually an IP?

EDIT: accidentally I just encountered this linked from another thread.

can confirm: DUBE250 not hot-pluggable anymore (tested on Mac mini M1 with macOS Ventura beta 6).

EDIT:
it's even worse: DUB-E250 not connecting at all (reboot oder power cycle doesn't help)!

Wow that sucks. I'm still on beta 22a5321d - but I heard beta 6 fixes MS Excel issues.

Automatic versus manual makes no difference in my case. Once you disconnect the cable, it goes from Connected to Not Connected instantly. Stays as Not Connected even after plugging back in, even though it is visible in the System Report. I'm updating to consumer beta 4 (developer beta 6?), so I'm expecting it to fix my MS Excel issues and completely break the USB-C Ethernet connection. We will see!

The good news is 22A5331f did fix the MS Excel issue and did not completely break USB-C Ethernet. Bad news is I still have to restart the laptop for the device to appear as "Connected".

I am finally able to hot swap this connection. I do have to manually renew DHCP (had to do it several times before it worked). But it is working!

...and today, no matter how many times I spam Renew DHCP Lease, the connection remains "Not Connected".

🤦‍♂️

Anyone know if this issue also affects Realtek 8156x based USB-C ethernet adapters? That's what I'm using (Pluggable branded), and if Ventura breaks it I won't be able to upgrade at all until it's fixed.

In my last two MacOS updates, including today's to MacOS 12.6, I ran into this issue where the USB ethernet interface stopped working and I had to do the procedure in this post to fix it.

I wonder if this is the same problem afflicting ya'll with Ventura.

Can someone running Ventura try this to see if it resolves the problem? If it does I'll feel a lot better about upgrading (and your problem will be fixed! Yay!)

Note that you might have to adjust the steps for UI changes in Ventura, but it should be straightforward.

@zorinlynx nope, removing and reconfiguring the interface does not help. DUB-E250 only works if plugged in when powering on the Mac mini. after a re-boot the interface doesn't connect to the network. shutting down the machine and powering it on again: it connects flawless. weird...
