Does anyone have any experience with either one using a 12 Pro Max? I have a pitaka air case and also received the pitaka magez case and car mount charger last night. i Have a Nissan Xterra and the part that grips onto the vent seemed like it make fall off with the PM on it during some bumps. It appears that the belkin one has 2 grips vs pitaka’s 1. I know that the belkin one will also not charge but that isn’t a big deal. I guess I am mostly curious as to how the belkin one stays attached to the vent with a PM attached on bumpy roads or during high g turns.

on a side note, if neither mounts want to stay attached to the vent, the pitaka also comes with a flat mount that I can glue to the dash and that would work fine also. TIA

You really should use the dash mount instead IMO. Why cover a hot/cold vent if not needed?

My gut says the Belkin one will hold better than the Pitaka.

I ordered the Belkin version for my wife and I. They arrived today and work really well. We are using leather MagSafe cases with the 12 pro.
I’ve not been able to test with a 12 Pro Max yet.

Excited to try a future dash mount version of this.

Just got my Belkin MagSafe mount today and used it in the car with my iPhone 12 Pro Max in the Apple Leather Case. At first when I was just playing with the mount and the phone with my hands, it seemed a little weak; however, once I put it into car vent, the phone never came off from driving. Drove on normal road conditions and no indication of coming off even with speed bumps. I doubt it will stay on if someone is driving like 40 MPH over a speed bump or dip, but no one should be really doing that anyways...

I am little eager to know where people will use this since most of the Car Infotainment system have Apple CarPlay, so why would anybody want to hang their iPhone in front of them.

Depends how old your car is! This is great if you have a non-Carplay ordinary Bluetooth car stereo and use your phone for sat nav / Spotify etc. No more faffing with a cradle.
I wasn't going to upgrade my X until this feature came along...

My daily driver is an ‘05 Nissan Xterra. When I put a new radio in it didn’t come with CarPlay. My other vehicles have wireless CarPlay, but not my daily beater....lol

Dude do you not realize how many people don't have CarPlay???

I asked because now Car Infotainment comes with Apple CarPlay at a very cheap price in India and all the new car models have Apple CarPlay. So I was wondering why would someone in 2020 buy a car mount. I do understand that not everybody have CarPlay but I’ve only seen taxi drivers using car mount while passenger vehicle users have either bought Car Infotainment system with CarPlay or they have received with the car manufacturer while buying top end variant of the car.

This Sony XAV-AX1000 Infotainment comes with Apple CarPlay at only $215.00 and after discount from the shop it comes down to only $149.00 in India

Dude it was a completely ridiculous question. CarPlay is still relatively new and many of us, myself included, currently own cars that are not compatible with the system.

I disagree. In India many people have CarPlay and nobody really uses Car Mounts. One of the reason behind is cheap Car Infotainment and all car manufacturers now provide Apple CarPlay. ALL!

Also, a person buying $700-$1000 iPhone can easily afford $200 car infotainment if it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay. If you had told me this that it’s still relatively new like few years back, I would agree. It‘s 2020, cmon Apple CarPlay is very common.

Bro you need to wake up. Your words are seriously ridiculous, tone-deaf, and absurd.

I currently drive a 2011 Lexus RX. A car many would deem quite nice. I bought the car and have no need or desire to lease or purchase a new car anytime soon. My car is incompatible with CarPlay. That includes third party options. So I have no choice but to use a dash mount if I want to use Apple Maps, navigate my iPhone screen, etc.

This is the case for millions of people all across the world. It's really not that hard to understand. I also find it impossible that in your nation of over one billion people your citizens are rarely using car mounts in their cars. Every country in the world uses car mounts to some effect. We are probably roughly 10 years away from CarPlay or the like being a standard in just about every car on the road.

In India the cycle of changing cars is 5-7 years. There are cars over 10 years also but the percentage is very less. Passenger vehicles now have CarPlay in all the car manufacturers so I don't understand why do you think that CarPlay is still relatively new. Also, when I said nobody really use car mounts, it was for passenger vehicles because India being a price sensitive market, not everyone buys top variant of the car so after market stereos & car infotainment systems are highly purchased which also now comes with Apple CarPlay at cheap price. So it's widely available in India. You are using a nine year old car and I don't how many of people back in US use cars for so long. But I'm very confident that new cars have CarPlay and there's a good amount of percentage for that.

I don't mean to say NOBODY uses car mount but that thing has faded. It's like audio jack, it's there around but nobody really uses it. There are now cheap wireless earbuds and so many other wireless options. It's 2020!!!!

Also, if you want Apple CarPlay for your car -

Article below is from 2018. We're in 2020 End.

In the first three months of this year, analysts at Canalys suggest that Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto were available in 46 percent of new vehicles sold in Europe, and 52 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S.

In the U.S., an estimated 56 percent of smartphone owners have an Android handset, while 43 percent us iOS. That number is far more lopsided in Europe, where 78 percent of smartphone owners use Android, and 20 percent use iPhones.

-----

P.S - Those you know who don't have Apple CarPlay, it can be fit in old car. There are tons of options, let me know I'll help you out.

You are extremely ignorant when it comes to the reality of people and their current stereo setups. You say that you don't know how many people use cars as old as 9 years in America. The answer is a ton. I live in an affluent suburb and I make good money. I still see plenty of cars roughly the age of my Lexus and older. People hold onto cars often. Once it's paid off it makes sense to do so. I'm assuming this is the reality of both India and the rest of the world too.

You come into this thread questioning why anyone would use a mount in 2020. That is so ignorant and ridiculous that I'm still baffled by it. And what do you do when I push back with common sense facts? You dig your heels in and try to continue to establish that what I'm stating is incorrect. As if the world is infested with cars running CarPlay and Android Auto.

Take a look at this list. The majority of cars started seeing CarPlay in 2016, at the earliest. What percentage of people do you think are driving cars right now from 2015 and older? I'm going to confident say a ton. I'm also going to say that most of those people are not going to bother uninstalling their stereo system for an after market CarPlay solution. And by the way, that video you posted proves absolutely nothing to me. A google search of my car model and year shows me zero results of anyone using CarPlay successfully. If anything, 2011 Lexus owners have conceded that it isn't a viable option for them. Oh well. The car is 9 years old. We will use a dash mount if desired and get CarPlay in our next cars.

Lastly, this notion that people don't use windshield/vent/dash mounts in 2020 is probably the dumbest thing you've said to this point. I see them everywhere mate. I really doubt it's any different in India as it is here.

So please, give it a rest. Simply accept the fact that iPhone mounts are very much a thing in 2020 and will be for many years to come until we all are using CarPlay/Android Auto in our cars.

It’s alright if you think having a car mount in 2020 is still a thing. At least not in India, only taxi drivers use for their Uber/OLA (taxi services) app. I’m just saying what I have seen and not heard so it obviously doesn’t baffle me or feel absurd about anything what I have said.

BTW, if you really need help with Apple CarPlay in your car, let us know.

I have CarPlay and still use a mount, somewhere to keep and plug the phone in and connects to CarPlay. Not everyone has wireless that has carplay.
Few from India on here seem to think they know it all.

Whoa man just calm down. I don’t think he was intending to offend anyone. You seem to be on an amplified attack here.

Not sure where this comment comes from. There’s only one person in this thread who’s giving their POV from living in India.

I meant here on MR.

Pitaka hands down. I have been using the Pitaka Qi car mount charger works great with magEZ case from my iPhone X to now my iPhone mini and my phone has never fallen off. The great thing compared to the belkin is it wirelessly chargers the phone too.

I'm just saying what I have seen around. If that offends anyone, I feel bad for them.

My view towards car mount does not change until I see tons of people using. I have friends, family, colleagues etc none of them use car mount and I'm not making this up, otherwise I wouldn't have said it's not a 2020 thing at the first place. But I have seen all taxi drivers using car mount.

Driving style is different in each countries and with strict rules in US, I'm pretty sure people use car mounts instead of keeping smartphone on your seat or near the cup holder.

But my view towards it is very clear that CarPlay is easily available now, either with car manufacture or third party so it's upto the consumer what they would like to use. 90% of the cars easily get third party car infotainment system with Apple CarPlay at a very nominal price these days.
