Hi,

I purchased a belkin wireless print server today (54g) and am running into problems.

It is set up via lan, to go to the wireless network, and join it automatically. The MAC address was added to the AP's filter, and then encryption was disabled for now. But the wirless light claims that it is connected, despite the fact that noone in our house can print to it, and noone in our house can ping it. Tis almost as if it wasn't there.

Any ideas?

did you configure the printer as an LDP,IPP, or jet direct? I think you have to set it up as an LDP. It would have been easier if you just bought DLink or any other brand that supports appletalk.

The problem we had was that we had to add the LAN MAC address as well, for reasons still unknown....

And Belkin for us, as we already have some Belkin stuff. Windows can print fine to it, but i acctually have no ideas as to what to set up with my mac....

ok i am assuming you can print to the printers over windows with your print server. you going to have to turn on your windows machine and look the printer properties (from xp it is start->control panel->printers->right click the printer and properties) you may have click around the tabs probably for port settings. i am kinda fuzzy at this point.

since it is a belkin, i am going to assume it is using LPD. it will say IPP in windows then just select ipp instead in the next step.

from your mac system preferences->printers->ip printers. match the settings from windows here and select LPD printer in the select box above. after select you printer from the list. hopefully it is there, otherwise you going to have to download them from the lexmark and hp site.

another note, if you had a printer server that also supported appletalk, all you would have to do is enable appletalk in network preferences, then printer ulitity would find all the printers for you and you could add them automatically. windows would work the same way is it does, because it would still support ipp and lpd.

okay, I think that was maybe panther? I don't get some of that. Anyway, none of my printers are installed, and lexmark seem to have this idea that on their cd they are mac compatible, and onthe web they are not...

which operating system do you have 10.3 or 10.4? click on the apple icon in the top right then "About this mac". i gave you instruction to install your printer on 10.4, tiger.

from your previous post you made it sound like you windows computer could print over the network. can they? if you windows computer can't print over the network, you need to open the manual and follow the instruction. you will need the settings from your windows computer to setup your mac. the reason why is, the print servers aren't made for macs, nor do they say they support macs. however, the standard they use to print is an open standard and macs have the ability to use it. however, you must get the settings from a windows machine because it doesn't sound like you can figure them out on your own.

I have tiger, i know this. But my system preferences was different. Nehoo, i got to ip printing, and am now printing to the HP Officejet following your instructions, having looked all day for a driver. And i got one. But how come my mac can print to the Z615 over USB, and have a driver, but then i cannot find that driver anywhere on my computer....?

(and thanks for the help so far)
