I am surprised to learn that Apple sells a Belkin USB-C cable that is NOT USB-C compliant. The worst part is Apple does not accept returns on cables!

Would this cable damage my 2016 MacBook if I use it with a battery pack or charger?

from Amazon user:
"[update] I have verified with Geoff Hoff's test posted on Google+ that the Belkin white 1M cable from the Apple Store is not compliant. You would think that this is just a different colored and shorter version of the "good" Belkin cable reviewed here, but it appears we will have to test each variant from the same manufacturer just to be sure. One clue I've found is that the non-spec C to A cables will always generate a "charging rapidly" message on the lockscreen of a Nexus 5x or 6p, regardless of what it is plugged into. So that should be your first sign to be wary. A compliant cable should only generate a "charging" or "charging slowly" message."
