Is it known/expected that the Belkin USB-C Ethernet adapter (the one that looks like an official Apple adapter but isn't) is fussy/insistent about being plugged in directly to the system and not daisy-chained?

I am trying to use it through the official Apple AV adapter with the HDMI, USB-A, and USB-C ports but was disappointed to find that it doesn't seem to like being plugged in to that and only works when plugged in directly.

I was under the impression the USB-C port on that adapter was only for transferring power. Per the name, an adapter is not a hub.

Ah yeah...sure enough the USB-C port on the AV adapter has specifically a charger icon printed on it.

Well shucks...makes cabling a little messier than i would like but I guess that's just the way it has to be (short of just using WiFi instead of course).

I was originally planning on using a hub but they are just too expensive right now (at least the ones that I am interested in like the CalDigit Element hub).
