I was sort of hoping Apple would just switch over completely to USB-C but I guess they didn't.

What benefit is there to keeping around Lightning? IIRC the 30 pin connector had video and audio out, but Lightning is all digital out, correct?

Why can't they just either go all USB-C or, what I'd like, is just go all Lightning. I know this isn't possible any more but it would have been nice to have the USB folks adopt Lightning as the standard instead of the C.

Don't think lightning is able to handle the charge capacity for the MacBook, that's why they kept it to USB C. Also probably because of easier availability of accessories.
