Benefits of IMAP over POP

I know that MobileMe will work best with mail set up as an IMAP account but I currently use POP instead.
I like to be able to have everything on my computer at home when I can sit down to REALLY respond to things that I may not have time to get to. I just wonder if by deleting things on my iPhone will also delete the same things on my Macbook, etc.
Is there some reason why someone might prefer IMAP? Am I missing something? I know that because my .Mac account is set to POP, I don't have to iPhone Feature SEND TO GALLERY which kinda stinks but I can live with that.
Just curious if I should consider switching things.

main reasons:
if you read a message, its marked as read everywhere
if you delete a message, its deleted everywhere
if you move a message to a folder, this will be the same everywhere

I like that when I delete something it is gone, not have to delete it on 3 different devices. I have .mac, and cant wait till mobileme.
