Benm tethering same as aircard usage?

From AT&T's perspective, is tethering with the official tethering app via the "benm" method exactly the same as taking the sim card out of the iphone, putting it in an aircard, and connecting via the "wap.cingular" APN?
 
any ideas? specifically, I have run PDANet and it works great. I like the added "comfort level", be it perceived or real, that the PDANet method is less noticible than native tethering. However, I really need to tether via bluetooth, which only appears available via the native method (exposed via Benm). so what do people think?
