just upgraded my 15 year old cinema display to a benq pd2700u, which is listed as a 4k, hdr10 display.
with 10.15.4, there is a "high dynamic range" option in display preferences for eligible displays. enabling it, however, appears to do the opposite and produces a low contrast, dull image on all content. its worth noting enabling this mode overrides most of the display's own controls, which become greyed out and unavailable, so its not an issue of having conflicting configurations in the OS and the hardware.
further reinforcing that there may be issues with this mode, if you go into the "arrangement" tab of macos display preferences, every time you adjust the arrangement (which should not be changing the the display's visual properties), the display bumps down even further in contrast, until it becomes unusable.
lastly, disabling this mode returns a significant vividness to the display that much better matches even the internal macbook pro display.
anyone else running up against these issues on this or other external monitors?
