Beogram Question

Sorry, this is about as far from digital audio as you can get, but someone here may still know. I have a Beogram RX-2 turntable and am using a MMC3 cartridge, but they are not made anymore and the ones still around for sale are anywhere between 250 and 600 dollars. Are there any cartridges that are more easily acquired that will work this this turntable?

Sound-smith.com is where I have been getting mine from. They advertise at $270 for the 3/4 series but I have been getting them for $220. Ask for the old ex-B&O stock heads. I assume you have the 3000?

Also, the marketplace at beoworld.org may have some for sale.

Awesome thanks, I was looking at sound smith... didn't know how legit they were. And it's just the MMC3 (not 3000).

SoundSmith are great. I've bought a few replacement BeoGram replacements from them and they've been fantastic, if a little pricey.

Mind you though, it's worth spending it on B&O's decks - they were some of the best ever made, especially the BeoGram 4000...

I'd still take a Linn over a B&O turntable any day. But I can't afford either, so...

Short of a modded LP12 Sondek, I would choose the 4000 or maybe an 8000 (although the build quality was hideous) over any Linn deck. The Linns are not only sonically dull, but they're technically no way near as accurate as the B&Os were as well...

Short of a modded LP12 Sondek, I would choose the 4000 or maybe an 8000 (although the build quality was hideous) over any Linn deck. The Linns are not only sonically dull, but they're technically no way near as accurate as the B&Os were as well...

Absolutely. The 4000 is superb and is still hands down one of the best reference units you could hope to own. (can you tell I have one ) Linn has continued to disappoint me, despite some people trying to sell me on them. Then I fire up my 9500 with my Penta's and watch their jaw drop. I still keep a few ceramic cassettes just to use the loader even though its gathering dust. P.S. considering selling my RL 60's... I've had to replace the bands only twice so far, and I want to buy my buds 6500

Go for the 6500 If you thought the 9500 was good, just wait till you hear the BM6500 (you'd never guess this is what I own ).

Are your Pentas running of the BeoLab 150/200s or off the 9500's built in amp?

Penta 3's -active (powered) speakers and have the 200's at the base driven by the Beocenter 9500. Plenty of oomph in them so far (although the neighbors might say different )

That's B&O's best CD player to date...
