I'm looking at the refurb 27" iMacs with the 3.4Ghz quads. Is the 256ssd worth the extra $250?

I'm doing photo editing and occasional video editing. It's $1789 for a 1TB HD vs. $2039 for a 256ssd. Will the ssd make much of a difference?

and what performance gain would you get by ordering the new iMac? Doesn't the new iMac have the same processor as the old 2011? 3.4ghz quad?

OP i think the refurb 27 will be an amazing buy.

The new iMac has a 3.4ghz Ivy Bridge processor, the 2011 model had a 3.4Ghz Sandy Bridge processor. I've seen it mentioned as having about a 10% performance gain. It should also run a bit cooler.

The new iMac also has better GPU options than the 2011, although we don't know the prices of all of the options yet.

Okay, I'll assume a 10%-15% performance gain on the new machine, now I just need to see what the pricing will be. Most likely I'm just going to get a refurb, especially if the new one is almost 1K more.
