Hi all, I recently purchased a 13" rMBP2014 and iPhone 6, all with ac wifi so want to upgrade my router.

I am currently using 1Gbps fibre plan and my current router is Asus RT56u. I am thinking of buying the RT-AC66U.

Appreciate your input on the best router for my rMBP in the price range of $150-$200

I personally use a asus rt ac68u, but if I'd buy again I would probably end up with a AirPort Extreme. Has everything you need including ac wifi. :)

Netgear NightHawk or Asus AC87U?

These are the 2 AC devices that come to mind whenever I think "AC".

Note: I don't have real world experience with them. Currently still using an Asus RT-N66U with Merlin's 374.43 (fork) firmware.

IMO that is a good choice. See this.

The AC1750 models like the AC66U are the sweet spot for price performance right now. There are newer AC1900 models out now, but no client devices for them to talk to, so it really is extra money for not much benefit at this point.

Nothing really wrong with Apple's routers if you just want something basic. But given the lack of features and higher price, I don't see the attraction myself.

Thanks. Will order today :)
