Best advice for removing scratches in an iMac G5 case.

Basically I'm curious if anyone has a fairly surefire method to remove scuffs and scratches from an iMac G5. I picked one up from a friend for $50 that needed new caps in the power supply (check) and was pretty roughed up cosmetically. Now I've decided to keep it as a kitchen/guest computer but would like to get rid of the scratching as much as possible.

So, does anyone have any experience / advice with on this issue?

I feel like that is for extremely superficial scratches, these are slightly deeper, the kind where one would be thinking more of sanding with a medium to light grit sand paper, then an ultra fine grit paper, then a rubbing compound, then a wax type method. Though I have no clue how the material the imac is made of (acrylic?) would do with the abrasion, therefore I'm seeking more experienced advice.

repaint whole thing?
